Experiment 2
Cluster Randomized Controlled Trials for the Adoption of AWD
Objectives
The experiment, concentrating on the adoption of AWD at the farm level, is taking place at farmer fields to evaluate:
- Water savings in AWD compared to continuous flooding.
- Impact of AWD on farm profitability.
- Adoption of AWD using different combination of interventions (simple & smart tubes, with & without advisory).
- Identify the barriers in adoption.
Sample Design
Sampling for the experiment was conducted in the following steps:
- Eight Qanungo Halqas, representing district villages were selected.
- Within each selected Qanungo Halqa, three villages were selected.
- Two of these villages were designated for Analogue AWD tubes, while the third village was designated for Smart AWD tubes.
- 12 farmers from each of the villages were assigned for AWD Analogue tubes and 5 farmers from each of the village were assigned for Smart AWD tubes.
- Each farmer has two acres of land; one acre is being used for continuous flooding (Farmer Practice), and one acre is being used for AWD.
